Description
Ramps, also called wild leeks, are native to the Northeastern US. They are a type of wild onions, and they have been foraged for centuries by the Native American tribes living in New England, Canada, and Appalachia. This early spring plant has a strong garlic odor and a flavor similar to onions, but overall ramps are sweeter and less pungent than most other plants in the allum family. The ramps in this salt have been sustainably and responsibly foraged in Claremont (NH) by just harvesting the stems and leaves, taking care not to deplete the natural population. We then combined the dried ramps with sea salt and US-sourced onion and garlic powder, to create a quintessentially Yankee salt. Use it as a finishing salt on every dish that could use a little zhuzhing up, or mix it with butter to spread on corn on the cob or baste a steak with. Naturally vegan and gluten-free.
