Description

While often mistakenly believed to be a combination of different spices, ground allspice is a spice made from a small dried berry that boasts a flavor reminiscent of nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves, hence the name.
While it is produced in many countries throughout the world, Jamaica is the largest producer and Jamaican allspice is known for its premium quality due to a higher level of essential oils within the plant. Ground allspice is extremely versatile and can be used in both sweet and savory recipes, due to its multi-faceted and intense flavor. In Europe and North America ground allspice is primarily used for baking, and its a fundamental ingredient to many classic Christmas desserts, however in the Caribbean and in South-Asia allspice is mostly used as an ingredient for savory blends and dishes, such as in jerk seasoning and curry blends, since its somewhat sweet flavor helps balancing out the heat and spiciness of dried chiles. Ground allspice can also be used for classic BBQ dry rubs.
Our ground allspice is freshly ground in house from whole allspice berries. Naturally vegan and gluten-free.
